The Editor of the Doofuzz Dudes books is Beverley Asmus. Beverley is a really funny lady and you'd all love her to bits. See what she has to say about her life.

What is your connection to the Doofuzz Dudes?

I’m really lucky that Roslyn chose me to be her editor. This means I get to read all the books as soon as she finishes writing them.

What is your favourite Doofuzz Dudes book out of the first four books?

The first one in the series, The Doofuzz Dudes Rescue Moondar, will always be  my favourite. It introduces Zarundok and the Dudes go on an amazing journey  with him to Moondar, where all the houses are made of chocolate – which I absolutely love eating.

Who is your favourite character?

I love Zarundok because he is so wise and acts like a father figure to Toby and Huon, whose own dad died just after Toby was born. Mrs. Doofuzz is another favourite of mine because she is so devoted to her sons, and also because she is a good cook and I am a really bad cook.

What other children’s books do you like to read?

When I was growing up I loved anything written by Enid Blyton. I think that’s why  I really like the Doofuzz Dudes. They are like a modern day version of the ‘Secret Seven’ and ‘Famous Five’ stories. I also like reading the Harry Potter books.

   Have you done any writing?

Yes. I do write my own stories, but these are for adult readers.

When is your birthday?

I celebrate my birthday on the 12th of July each year, which is usually
the coldest day of the year. I wish I had been born in summer as I
don’t really like wintertime.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

(At the Doofuzz Dudes Club we think Beverley is witty, beautiful and
clever, but Beverley is more modest than that!)

Describing yourself is much harder than describing someone else,
isn’t it? I hope other people think I am interesting.

Do you have any children?

Yes, I have two sons, Scott and Paul. Scott is married to Maria, so that
means I have a daughter too, doesn’t it?

Where did you go for your last holiday? I went on a trip to New Zealand
last year. It was my first time there and I was surprised by how beautiful
it is. I went in a helicopter to the top of the Franz Josef glazier and we
landed on the ice. Everywhere I looked there were only two colours,
snow white ice and clear blue sky. It was an amazing little adventure.
If you ever have the chance to go in a helicopter, just go. You would love it!
 Do you have any pets?

Well I'm not too sure if my poodle  is my pet, or if I'm his pet. His name is Barnni and he's almost fourteen years old. He has some really bad manners, like wanting to be fed from the dinner table and snoring when he's asleep, but he is quite charming in other ways. He has the cutest little nose and soft brown eyes. He also likes to cuddle up close to me on the sofa when I'm watching TV or reading.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?

I must be one of those people who have funny things happening to them all the time. But I was just thinking, on that New Zealand trip I stayed in a hotel with my friend and decided to wash some clothes while I was taking a shower. The water overflowed and flooded the rooms below us. I guess that wasn’t funny for the people in those rooms, but my friend and I felt so embarrassed we laughed until we cried. Especially because the man who ran the hotel evacuated us to another room so he could ‘fix’ the plumbing. We were too ashamed to tell him it was our fault.

What was the last book you read?

Presently, I’m reading the latest novel written by Jodie Picoult. It’s called Nineteen Minutes and is about a boy who gets bullied at school and what that does to him. It wouldn’t be suitable for young readers though.

What is your favourite movie ever?

I will watch "The Sound of Music" any time they put it on television, and that’s the only movie I would ever watch so many times. I love musicals and I also like thrillers. But one of my all time favourite movies is a little known Russian movie called Burnt by the Sun. Oh yes, I also love anything with Johnny Depp in it and can’t wait to see his latest.
